We Went Back

On April 14, 2002, we returned to what was once the Buchenwald Concentration Camp to commemorate the power of hope and involvement.

Bernd Schmidt, and his associates of the U.S.Veterans Germany Gesellschaft, and Cynthia Vaughan, Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Medical Command in Heidelberg, (Gen. Ursone, Commander), and her fine group of army personnel, including Marie Shaw and son Alex, Sergeant Gerry Wood, Lt. Col. Susan Yanoff all collaborated to make our trip most successful and enjoyable.

Weimar dinner

Thanks to everyone's efforts, we were hosted wonderfully in Weimar, Ettersburg, Erfurt, and Buchenwald.

We shared with and learned from camp survivors, German war veterans, members of the German Red Cross Youth, local officials, and our friends in the US Army.

But the height of our trip was on the anniversary of the last time we were there, in 1945. On April 14th, a permanent memorial was commissioned in Buchenwald's "Little Camp."

We brought back lots of memories and pictures for the site. Take a look!

We also brought back as many questions as answers. Come in to our discussion room and contribute.
